This week we’re betting the main event of PBC’s Saturday card, Brandon Figueroa vs Luis Nery.  This is a fantastic matchup that will go a long way toward settling the division.  The winner here is already in line to face Stephen Fulton in the fall which will be a great test for either man.  Nery has not been a stranger to controversy.  There have been failed drug tests and problems making weight over the years.  He has bounced between 118 and 122 but his power has been there in either division.  After his last fight, a lackluster win over Aaron Alameda, he briefly trained with Eddy Reynoso but ultimately left that camp because he didn’t feel like it was the right fit.  Most believe Nery wasn’t interested in adopting a more defensive style and he has talked as if he wants to live or die with his power.  Figueroa is taller and much longer but we don’t expect that to be a factor.  He’ll come right after you from the opening bell working his way in behind the jab and then pressuring you with volume.  We don’t think he has true concussive power but his hands are fast and he’s throwing.  This one will likely come down to whether or not Nery can get home with something big and shake Figueroa and he should have some opportunities to get it done.  But can he match Figueroa’s pace?  We’re getting in late on this one and the line was wider earlier in the week but we still like Figueroa to avoid the big shot and grind Nery down.  He probably doesn’t get him out, but we like him to get a decision in a fight we may remember for a long time.
