Investing With Boxing Picks, Week 39: It’s Youth Versus Experience

Julian Rodriguez takes on Jose Pedraza on Saturday night.

We hit three of four bets a couple weeks ago to extend a bit of a hot streak.  We’re continuing to outpace our mutual fund investment at this point:

Boxing Betting Annualized Rate of Return (since 9/17/20):  64.43%

Mutual Funds Annualized Rate of Return (since 9/17/20):    35.77%

Boxing Betting Return On Investment (ROI):   19.92%

This week we’re betting on an undercard fight on Top Rank‘s ESPN show, Jose Pedraza vs Julian Rodriguez.  This is an interesting case of Top Rank matching the prospect Rodriguez with the proven contender Pedraza.  The winner of this fight will be close to title contention.  Rodriguez is an offensive minded fighter who wants to stay close enough to throw in combination.  He’s not a huge puncher but he lands enough to get you out of there.  But he’s never been in with anyone as experienced as Pedraza, whose losses have all been against top fighters in Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis and Jose Zepeda.  Pedraza will want to keep things at range where he’s a straight, accurate puncher.  He’ll likely be on the back foot, using some lateral movement.  In the past Pedraza has been passive at times but he threw more last time out and looked good.  He’s not much of a puncher at 140 so he may have trouble keeping Rodriguez off him.  It’s good matchmaking and we think this will be a good fight.  The line opened nearly even but when Pedraza got to +140 we were betting on him.  Since the line has widened much further, we’re betting two units.

$29 on Jose Pedraza at +195
